I started thinking about what I had at home and what I could use and then I remembered a bunch of pool noodles in the garage. I figured what the heck let's give it a try. I started by cutting a slice in the noodle and placing it over the crib rail. Then, I took another one and fit it to those rails. Once I had fitted the noodles, I took a bit of electrical tape, this was to make sure the noodles didn't move, slide off or Pumpkin didn't pull them off!
They don't look very pretty do they? Then I decided that I just couldn't take the Ugliness of the pool noodles and tape. It is just ugly. I went to my trusty bin of fabric and pulled out this awesome polka dot fabric (that I used in college for a birthday bulletin board). It not only fit perfectly with the color scheme of her room but it is very cute.
I hung the fabric over the side to get a quick measurement of how much I would need to cover the pool noodles.
I cut the fabric to where I needed it and using my very basic and almost non exististent sewing skills, I stitched a button onto the fabric and created little spots for the fabric to close. Not only was it easy but it was made with stuff that I had at the house! I love the way it turned out and the best part, is Pumpkin is no longer having bruises when she throws a fit!
Update: I do not receommend using buttons for younger children, as it was pointed out that they could chew on them, and the theads would break down. Since Pumpkin is two and is not chewing on them or even playing with them, I think we are alright. You could easily close the seam with velcro for the younger children.

OMG! I love this idea!!!! It is perfect, and would be ideal for the crib we'll be getting our little guy in a few months! Following Back from Marine Wife! <3
ReplyDeleteThank you. The best part is it cost me a total of $2.00! Good luck with your little one and your new bundle :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! If the fabric were cut wider, the extra portion could be tucked into the "seam" and then fitted on to the rails. To secure even more, they could be glue-gunned in. You would have to tie the the noodles on afterward ~ maybe ribbons? Thanks for the awesome idea! I'm pinning :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tara, what a wonderful update! I love how easy and effective they were and still are!
